Great Opera Singers

Believe it or not, but good singers are probably better equipped for effective public speaking than you might imagine. Let's examine this statement in a little more detail.

Good singers have a lot going for them. Confidence to stand and deliver in front of large audiences; the ability to project their voices, either in forte (loud) or piano (soft) tones with modulation of the voice to emphasize a point and an appealing presence on stage.

Public Speaking is an art. Sure, it's easy to stand up in front of a large gathering of listeners armed with a pre-written script and sally forth with well-thought out information. But, to capture the attention of listeners you need to vary the presentation. It must be flavored with change of tone, variety of expression and the odd occasional pause to build the impact when needed.

Good singers are all trained to use their voices for maximum effect. Even opera singers of the highest rank cannot simply sing their role and expect thunderous applause. They need to convince the audience. Effective vocal presentation is of paramount importance. A good speaker needs to become an actor. One who actually lives through the speech. And don't think that world-class speakers don't understand this. Many seek vocal training from competent voice coaches to ensure they deliver with the skill expected of them.

Public Speaking is the art of well-balanced and modulated vocal presentation. That's one sure way of capturing the attention of listeners.

Of course, presentation is not everything. The text is clearly the dominant factor. However, if you want to get your point across with courage and conviction, learn to project your voice. Explore and practice the art of winning over your customers or listeners with tonal change, coupled with a well chosen variety of vocal dynamics. If it doesn't come naturally to you, seek help.

A great Public Speaker will always win over the hearts and minds of the listener. It's worth the time and even cost to maximize your vocal effectiveness.
